The Wall 627

About

The Wall was founded by Mark Bullard and Emme Hall after they noticed the absence of a true student-led media outlet on campus. While we greatly appreciate the work of the Office of Communications to deliver campus news and updates, we felt there needed to be a news source created for students, by students.
Talladega College is located at 627 W. Battle Street, Talladega, AL 35160, and that number has become part of our identity.

Co-founder Mark Bullard highlighted the historical significance of The Wall (the brick wall in front of Callanan Gym), a central meeting place on campus. In its prime, alumni recalled it as the spot where you could find out what was happening around campus and connect with fellow Degans. Reviving that spirit, our publication The Wall 627 serves as the modern-day hub for student news and conversation.

Mission Statement:

The Wall 627 is a student-led media organization founded to inform, amplify, and connect the Talladega College community. Created by students, for students, our mission is to provide independent, accurate, and engaging journalism that reflects the voices, experiences, and concerns of Degans. Rooted in the historic spirit of The Wall as a central gathering place on campus, we serve as a modern hub for conversation, storytelling, and accountability, empowering students to engage with their campus and the world around them.

Vision Statement:

The vision of The Wall 627 is to be the trusted heartbeat of Talladega College, where student voices are heard, stories are preserved, and dialogue drives progress. We envision a campus culture where students are informed, engaged, and represented through responsible journalism. As we grow, The Wall 627 aims to set the standard for student-run media at HBCUs by honoring our history, embracing innovation, and fostering a new generation of storytellers who use media as a tool for truth, connection, and change.

Motto:

For students by students one brick at a time. #BrickbyBrick
